My heart is racing as I stand frozen in the darkness, my sister's grip on my arm the only thing keeping me from collapsing. The voice behind us is like a knife to my soul, sending shivers down my spine. It's a voice I know, a voice I thought I'd never hear again. "Welcome home," it repeats, the words dripping with malice. My sister's hand tightens around my arm, her fingers digging deep into my skin. I can feel her fear, her panic, and it's contagious. I'm trying to process what's happening, but my mind is a jumble of emotions and questions. Who is this? How did they find us? What do they want? The voice takes a step closer, the sound of their footsteps echoing off the walls. I can feel their breath on the back of my neck, making my skin crawl. My sister's whisper is barely audible, but I feel her lips brush against my ear. "Don't move," she warns. "Don't make a sound." But it's too late. The voice is right behind us now, their presence suffocating. I can feel their eyes on us, boring into my skin. And then, a hand reaches out and grabs my shoulder, spinning me around. I'm face to face with a stranger, their eyes black as coal, their smile twisted and cruel. My sister's grip on my arm is the only thing keeping me upright, but even that's starting to slip. The stranger's eyes lock onto mine, and I see something there that makes my blood run cold. Recognition. They know me. And I know them. But from where? My mind is racing, trying to place the face, but it's just out of reach. The stranger's smile grows wider, their eyes glinting with amusement. "You don't remember, do you?" they say, their voice low and menacing. And then, just as I'm about to respond, everything goes black. I feel myself falling, my sister's grip on my arm slipping away. I'm alone, plummeting into darkness, with only one thought echoing in my mind. Who is this person? And what do they want from me? But as I fall, I hear one final word, a word that makes my heart stop. "Brother."
