Compiler of Hearts-chapter 1 1
I'm left standing alone, the silence deafening. The arena, once filled with the hum of excitement and fear, is now a desolate landscape. I spin around, my eyes scanning the empty seats, the vacant stage. Where is everyone? The question echoes in my mind like a mantra. I take a step forward, my heart racing with anticipation. And then I see it. A piece of paper on the ground, near the stage. I walk towards it, my feet echoing off the walls. I pick it up, and my eyes widen as I read the message scrawled on it. "Meet me in the server room. Come alone." The words send a shiver down my spine. Who wrote this? And what do they want from me? I look around, but I'm still alone. The server room. I remember seeing a sign with those words on it when I was dragged through the corridors earlier. I take a deep breath, my mind racing with possibilities. I have to know what's going on. I start to move towards the exit, my eyes fixed on the door. As I reach it, I hear a faint noise behind me. I spin around, but there's no one there. The noise grows louder, and I realize it's the sound of footsteps. Heavy, deliberate footsteps. They're coming from the stage. I feel a presence behind me, and I turn to see a figure emerging from the shadows. It's Alex, his eyes locked on mine. But there's something different about him. Something that makes my blood run cold. His eyes seem... off. And then he speaks, his voice low and menacing. "You're just in time," he says. "The game is about to begin. And this time, you're not playing for a prize. You're playing for your life." Suddenly, the lights flicker, and the arena is plunged into darkness. I'm trapped, with no way out. And then, I hear the sound of the countdown. 10... 9... 8... The voice is getting closer, the numbers ticking down with an ominous urgency. I try to move, but my feet feel rooted to the spot. 7... 6... 5... The darkness is suffocating, the silence oppressive. And then, just as the countdown reaches 1, everything goes black. But this time, I'm not alone. I feel a hand on my shoulder, a breath on my neck. And a voice, whispering a single word in my ear. "Run."
