The Midnight Promise-chapter 1
I still remember the night it happened. The darkness felt like a living thing, suffocating me. It was the night my life changed forever. I was standing at the edge of the old, creaky pier, the wooden slats worn smooth by the relentless pounding of the waves. The moon was hidden behind a veil of thick, grey clouds, and the only sound was the water lapping against the shore. I had made a promise, a midnight promise, to meet someone there. Someone who had been my best friend since childhood. But as I stood there, the wind whipping my hair into a frenzy, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. The silence was oppressive, and I felt like I was being watched. Suddenly, a figure emerged from the shadows. It was her. But something about her was different. Her eyes seemed... haunted. And then, just as she was about to speak, a loud splash echoed through the night air. We both turned to look, and that's when I saw it. A body, floating face down in the water. And then, everything went black. When I came to, I was lying on the pier, my head throbbing in agony. The figure was gone, but a piece of paper was clutched in my hand. It had a single sentence scrawled on it: "They're coming for you." And then, I heard the sound of footsteps, heavy and deliberate, coming from the darkness. They were getting closer...
